I think it will make sports games a lot better but no company really has done it. I mean you could go to sky view if you want to control all the players like a classic version.

I've never thought about that before. Good question!

For tennis games it sounds like a good idea or with any sports where there is only one opponent/one on one.

However, for sports such as football (soccer) it would be slightly difficult, if not it would send you dizzy, because one minute you could be one character/player but then change character/player and struggle to grasp where you are on the pitch and what your trying to do.

It could be a viable option for some sports games, but not others.

Great question =)

It would be hard to keep a good view of all of the action in first person. VS mode would make it worse. It could be disorienting when switching player characters like in the NFL games. Multiple screens and camera tracking like in the FPS NPCs might be good workarounds.

Companies will continue with whatever is making the money. If there is risk in first-person, you can count them out. If they already have the recipe for success, I don't think they will be changing their ways. You may be thinking "but what if it works and they make more money?". Well I think "What if they do that risk and LOSE money". In this economy, they won't be making a risk soon.
