I believe it is too closed off and it needs to be opened more to Indie developers.

well you could be right in ways , though I have to ask myself is the industry really all that closed to independent development or is the cost of development of a good game which encompasses more then many can imagine its more then programming graphic the game plot the music the story line and more all a bit to costly for many to be involved with with out big $$ partners backers ..

its kind of like making a movie its pretty much million of dollars no really Idea if the concept will fly take off or be a huge flopping loss when it comes to being an independent developer it more then about a simple job hobby passion or pay check most good games your put your whole life on the line and maybe many others as well just to fund you need a big payday everytime or a very very good day job ..

I don't think you can really expect publishers to be supportive of indie developers. They essentially have no use for each other. The companies that really matter at this point are the online stores and they are opening up to them #even Steam#. There are plenty of ways for a developer to get what they need. I'll bet one of the most difficult aspects of a project is building a team. With indie titles becoming contenders they've shown their viability in the marketplace and the marketplace is making room for them.

well personally i think games deserve the 49 bucks price tag, anyone arguing otherwise dont know the enthusiasm of gaming and the art it takes to deliver an experience, good game studios aren't going any where, now also keep in mind that ios and android is a strong platform too and pretty good games are coming there, but console and pc gaming arent going anywhere nor is art industry that makes these master pieces, keep an eye on updates and future generations of gaming consoles will only be better, we must pay fair price to the developers n studios so that they keep making great stuff, remem it takes a lot to make games just like movies are made. games aren't going anywhere thats just my op and dont worry enjoy ur games!

The only time that AAA developer doesn't profit is when their game flops or they get sued or something. I think they deserve more patience concerning the time it takes to produce a game. Rushing them would just be an obstacle to the polish.

The reason online stores are so important is because, it costs less for the games to be packaged in that manor. It also groups them together in a larger variety that makes shopping not only convenient but even possible for titles that may be hard to find. It helps with sales; just by being there for the browsing and they can also be put on sale. All of these advantages and even more are the reasons for the falling price tags of games which also sells more games. If they make a well liked game they'll get theirs.

I don't think that making a movie can be likened to producing a AAA title. "To bake a cake from scratch you must first create its universe" Carl Sagan. This is what developers do #in a virtual manor of course#. Having to develop an "innovative" engine makes a lot of difference.

oh absolutely i m a huge proponent for dedicated app stores, for reasons secure downloading and easily browsing categories, i agree with your point!

sure I also think smaller games on the market such as indie games need more recognition. They have less attention because big games like call of duty are advertised more, microsoft should promote their indie games market more. People miss out on amazing games like: minecraft and Limbo.

I agree. Indie games just don't have comparable ad resources. Minecraft took the world by storm through word of mouth or L.P.s to be more specific. It was the gaming community's support that got them recognition in the first place.

Games like Minecraft and even some of the Facebook games had some of the industry leaders concerned. As you can imagine they were wondering if creating digital masterpieces and all of effort that goes into it is the best decision to make. If the larger companies start making smaller IPs as well to keep the edge #which could very well be happening as we type# then indie games may have to compete with them too. Since indie means independent; people liking, seeking, and playing them is their vital signs.

That's kind of the way I see it too. There are ample of ways to publish. I don't think there's equality though because the big names have reserved seats just about everywhere.
