THe price of the item is probably pennys, however what costs is the following:

  • Packaging
  • R&D
  • Transport (Probably the biggest overall cost)
  • Staff costs (3rd)
  • The retailers margin also has to be catered for... Remember they are sell up items for retailers, so they have to be worthwhile for the retailer to take into stock.
  • marketing (2nd biggest cost)
  • The fact that they CAN charge so much for the protectors, and people will buy them
  • and I have probably forgotten some things...
  • Lastly the fact that they do protect an $500+ product!

I will also like to say that there IS an difference between the cheap ones on Ebay til $1 each and the more expensive such as my favorite brand which is MediaDevil. HUGE difference in quality! Its worthwhile to pay extra :)

not only does it have to be scratch resistant, it has to transfer the touch from the protector onto the touch screen, so to make sure the protector doesn't inhibit use of the touch screen, it needs to be made special

oh yes it has to transfer the touch inputs to the main screen, right, so it implies they are made with some sort of special plastic!

may i ask if u have a tablet with scr protector how would u rate the experience, i mean does it do its job well enuf with both scr protection and accurate touch screen input?

no tablets here, but the few devices i have with screens, a protector would have helped, over time the scratched build up until you can't see the screen anymore

I don't know about you guys, but screen protectors these days are the biggest ripoff when it comes to electronics these days.

Now, this is my opinion only, but when I have a iPhone 4, iPad 3 and PS Vita, all touch screen, two with the screen exposed all the time (iPad has the smart cover) and none of them have any scratches, it makes me wonder if people that keep buying screen protectors have even tried at least to stick at least once with their device screen protector free.

Unless you buy one to reduce glare or reduce fingerprints (Which I would rather just clean the screen than putting a screen protector just for that), all they do is make your device screen look worse.

in my experience i would want to avoid oily screen on ipads or iphones, and atleast i do need that for my idevices, or better if apple of OEM decide to make great looking screens that do not attract that many finger prints and yucky stuff, along with scr protector i also think we need cases to protect the devices too.

Like cables I just go to eBay or another site and buy them for about five percent of the cost. Screen protectors can be a little bit harder as some are really cheap while other low priced covers may work fine.

because they are still cheaper then your $500 cellphone/tablet device and if you can drop a half grand on a device, well what is the extra money then?
