Hey Lockergnome, Recently me and a couple of friends got a pretty good idea for a Youtube show. Right now we're already bussy with creating and recording the show but we want to use certain songs for like a theme song, trailer and intro and such. Do any of you know a easy way to obtain a commercial licences for this? We have the money to pay for them (low budget though) but we have no idea where to get any licences. We're using my channel for this which got partnered before 2008 and is currently running adds which I do not want to lose due to unlicensed music. |

These are usually negotiated by a collective agent. See the following for the appropriate contacts ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_copyright_collection_societies Thanks, do I have to check the licences just for my home country where I upload it from or for each country that I see as my audience? 1
Your national organisation should usually have the powers to make arrangements for global use. |

I think you send a letter to the publisher asking for permission, I could be wrong, but can't hurt
But still, I need to find them first.. It's kinda unknown to me who to contact.
find out who owns the rights to the music there is 3 company's that own the rights to 90% or more of all music ... some times what you will find is if you are only using a tiny part small few note of a song under fair use its free the words can be a different story as to cost if they are title or hook for the song but a few words can come under fair use as well ..
fair use to has its limits usually provider you are not profiting by Directly reselling it ..
You say fair use does not allow profiting by reselling, what about profiting via advertisements on a Youtube video. Also am I right when I say that fair use only allows for 15 seconds max per artist in a video?
