MacBook Pro 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display

or MacBook Air 2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM 512GB Flash Storage

I am not a gamer, except for the occasional age of empires game.

Oh and what about AppleCare? $249 Should I buy it or put that money in some accessory?

To answer OP's question, it really depends on your needs! Personally, I would go for the Pro, because of the upgrade ability of your RAM or HDD. With an Air, what you buy is what you get and you have to stick with it...

You are right the pro is upgradable... at least on the HDD option.

I was faced with the same decision and I decided to go for the MacBook Pro. Very happy I made the right decision!

As far as I know, Age of Empires runs on Linux with Wine, why not just save the money, buy an IBM-Compatible and use Linux?

i think it answered the question, remember if its not another question its an answer maybe not the one that rubs you ego but honest if nothing more and maybe even a saving of more then half the money on investment ...

your responce of saying its not an answer is like getting mad at the judge when his advice to you for avoiding going to jail again is to stop breaking the law .. maybe not the answer that rubbed you ego but it was an answer and solution ..

Well, I am just saying that it was neither of the two choices that this individual offered. Maybe he/she wanted a mac but wanted to know which would suit his needs better.

i happen to agre with him I could care either way though if they are not into say graphic art editing and such and they are more into everyday computer and a nice game now and again save some $$ get a PC mac has it place but if you have no ned for what its best at why pay the Huge premium for an Item that most like wont be able to fit your use ..

It was a suggestion. Isn't it a good thing when a geek can save some money? It perhaps was a round-a-bout answer to his question, but I thought it was a good suggestion and something to think about. It sounded, at least to me, that this would be an appropriate way to go based on his description. Now, if he just wanted the status symbol of owning a Mac, sure, but it might be better advice otherwise if he was open to it. One should always ask as many questions as needed to determine exactly what fits ones purpose.

And well, no one else was giving him any advice.

Thanks for the responses... definitely I do not want a PC. I used to love LINUX, but If I can have UNIX in a beautiful machine and is as twikable as LINUX.

Why do you need either laptop? What do you want to do? How long do you intend on keeping them? Would you consider upgrading the laptop at a later date? Needs more info.

Well, I basically write, little travel, but from time to time I love to wind down with a good game.

Macbook Pro then. Possibly the retina if you care about the ssd and not upgrading the hardware... But its essentially the macbook air like macbook pro.

If the price difference is less than $500 go with the Pro.
