Start by not dropping it or spilling things on it. Likewise clean your screen and keyboard regularly. Also don't install junk software on it that will make it run slower.

To add on what TheTechDude said, make sure that you clean out dust in the fans, and if you really want to be guaranteed a fast computing experience, you should give Linux a try! And nice choice on the CPU by the way, AMD!

Maintainece is everything on a Windows PC. Defrag the hard drives, clean out temp files, keep your download folder tidy. Try CCleaner for an automated browser cleaning. For other types of freeware look up Gizmo.com.

my experience has been keeping things clean, my machine was out of warranty so i literally had to open it up and clean the dust(caution: i do not advice you to do the same, hence seek help from official vendor support chain), i always install updates n what not, use malwarebytes & windows security essential, yes keep my screen n keyboard clean(every 3rd day i do so), defrag hdd, disk cleanup and not over stressing my machine because "a laptop can never be a desktop".

In the near future i ll be installing SSD along with 8 gb of RAM and intend to keep my machine for atleast next 3.5 years.

Good luck!

Well, to maximize performance and have it last longer, clean your computer and Defrag it weekly or bi-weekly. I use CCleaner to clean temp files and the registry. Defraggler is a free disk defragmenting tool that replaces the built in disk defragmenter. Upgrade your RAM to the max! Since it's a laptop it wont hold that much and it's also cheap to buy. For faster boot times or a faster user experience, buy a good sized SSD. Any SSD is faster than the HDD you have now. For antivirus I use MSE along with MBAM. Great combination imo. Lastly, physically clean your PC so nothing ruins the internals. That's all I can think of!
