I'm considering changing my last name for reasons I won't go into and would like some suggestions -- something that sounds good. My first and middle name are Andrew Stephen, but I'm known as Andy to my friends so it would have to sound good either way. A name I've thought of changing to is Andrew Stephen Baratheon after my favourite house in Game Of Thrones -- and what I think is a pretty badass surname. Other than that, I'm not sure; it's not easy picking a name that suits you as, of course, we're all given our names and most of us stay with them all our lives. I have two siblings who will carry on the family name in case that comes up.

If you're going to choose your last name, then I would choose something that portrays wealth and growth. Some good last names would be Clover, Cash, Gold, and so on.

i'm a pretty laid back person so portraying wealth isn't very important to me, i'm also a Welshman so that plays a part in name choice. In Wales we didn't begin to take surnames until the 13th century onwards being knows as son of (ap) or daughter of (ferch) which was our custom and part of our old laws to establish lineage and to ensure we knew where we came from and this was still in sue in parts of the country right up to the 19th century. Because of this there are allot of people who have the same last name that bare no relation to each other, you could enter a room of 100 people in Wales and i guarantee most of the room will be made up of Evans's, Jones's, Thomas's. Griffiths, Powell's, Smith's, Roberts etc

So in a way i don't want it to sound to stray too far away from my heritage, so something Welsh or British would be could, Baratheon to me sounds like an old name with heritage that could easily be attached to a Northern European country even Britain. So i like that, but i need more suggestions along these lines keeping in ming my first and second name which will remain unchanged so it has to sound good with them.

are you married are you old enough to be married ???

getting married changing your last name to your wife is the easy est lowest cost way to change your name though still not free or close to it :)

keep in mind there is more to a name then just how it sounds usually for a male to change his name there is going to be big legal fees and possibly even court hearings and such its not as simple or as easy as you think to legally change your last name its your history your blood line legacy countries tend to find these things Important and be rather sticky and in flexible on the subject not to mention creditors your name is who you and your family have been through decade centuries its a link to what you been up to through out your life ..

if you have any children who still need adopting or born outside the country you live in that need you to go to the application process to have there birth legalized I would wait to change your name till these things are completed if you have ever wanted to travel hold off till that is done you can not be issued a passport unless you have more then 5 forms of ID with your existing name that is 5 to 10 years old or older your past ID with old name will be useless ..

if you ever had a plan of making a major purchase that requires mortgage hold off till that is done because as silly as it sounds a name change means starting over as a new person even though your old credit record will stick with you as well they will want your new name to have its own history to go on :) ..

people who's name change tend to have a touger way in the world with many things criedit is one of them Womenare a good exsample women who get married under stand because they much rebuild everything once they are married and change there name they become nobody till they reestablish them selves..

name changes have to be done 100% open and legal though unlike women who can prove something with there maiden name because her familly has another name guys change there name in secert lose school record college records you will be starting over them records will be usless your resume will be empty void of school records ..

because of all the hoopla over this we could give this effect of Identiy a whole new name we can call it the Obama effect..

Calm down, calm down!

This is UK law and here you have the right to be known by any name you choose without any legal changes required at all. You retain your birth name for legal purposes but can require that you be addressed by any name you want.

If you want to make it more official you simply apply for a deed poll, a notarised statement that the new name you are using identifies you as the person previously known as ... This costs around £30 and is done by thousands of people every year without stress, strain or court hearings.
