So, I've been a long-time lockergnome watcher andim just curious know Chris is able to get the new generation iPhone each time one comes out. I doubt he pays the unlocked price each time. Does he do some contract extension thing where he just extends his two-year contract another couple of years each time one comes out? I'm just wondering because I have the iPhone 4S and I'm watching for Apple's announcement of the next one (either September or October). Thanks! |

It's possible to contact your carrier/provider in order to renegotiate your contract. While you won't get the lowest price available, AT&T or Verizon will usually meet you in the middle as long as you agree to extend your contract past the original expiration date. (Usually ANOTHER 2 years). The Unofficial Apple Weblog has a guide that details how to check your early upgrade options. http://www.tuaw.com/2011/09/28/how-to-check-if-youre-eligible-for-an-iphone-upgrade/ Worst case scenario, those who are hell bent to have the latest and greatest will go out and buy a new iPhone at retail cost if they have too. |

Well I suppose Chris could either do as you said the contract extension or maybe the iPhone could be sponsored by one of his sponsors that he has. Or you never know, Chris does make it rain when it comes to Apple products so he might get the iPhone unlocked. |

I don't fully understand the US celluar market (LEss complicated here in Europe), however its something to do with AT&T you can pay them to "end" your current contract, and then upgrade your phone with an new 2 year... |

As @Griff said. You can meet in the middle. In the UK most networks will let you upgrade your phone 6 months before your contact is up - Providing you renew your contact. O2 doesn't even let new customers get the new iPhone from them for about 6 months. Only for existing customers. |

To simplify the Matter, it all comes down to MONEY.. Chris Got it - Chris gets it. Right? lOlz |
