What's better in your opinion? |

I much prefer the GUI of the older versions of Ubuntu, unity is awful. No matter how bad unity is, it will never be as awful as Windows 8. Overall Windows is much better supported but I prefer the GUI of Ubuntu even though the Windows 7 GUI is not too bad. As for stability I oddly find Ubuntu more stable. |

I like both very much. I dual boot XP and 12.04. I think XP is more powerful in higher level administrative applications and easier on system resources for more taxing multimedia applications. Windows has troubleshooting apps that are usable by the intermediate user. I've been dual booting for some time now and testing open source apps on both platforms. Multimedia apps tended to run well on both; however on my older machines segmentation faults would occur in Ubuntu suggesting a need for more RAM. Unity is a fast nice looking interface, it's just not for everyone. Windows interface is hard on the eye but well organized. Like I said; I like them both and I'll dual boot as long as Microsoft will allow it. ubuntu has the repair and trouble shooting tools to most of them run in the back groud at shut down and start up when required its mor intuitive for a newbie or experienced one figures out which tool to best use to correct its own.. why bother with a lot of button clo icking when file system needs repairing or restoring .. And what tools would you be referring to? what tool ??? any time the filing system, or hard drive is in doubt CHKDSK and repair runs also if its set up Ubuntu one checks to make sure things match up with configuration .. if your using network service they run checks too .. Windows does that too except for the network repair. That takes a right click. I was thinking more along the lines of administrative tools. Like Ubuntus' log files aren't as readable and sometimes you have to manually edit config files. Not really relevant to common usage but it bugs me. I installed this copy of ubuntu 12.04 on a brand new HP g6 note book and I the lap top ran windows long enough to down load chrom down load the Image for ubuntu and do the hard drive formating since then its has ran Ubuntu trouble free and mind you this machine runs 24/7 only re-boot if a update requires whenI am not atthe computer I shut the lid and it sleeps open the lid it resumes right where I left off through rain shine and power failures .. I have never need a repair tool this lap top hasa top run time without reboot of over 80days and the only reason I did the re-bbot was the kernel update a few weeks ago have had this now since feb of this year.. I'm glad they quit listing kernel updates in grub. The list would get pretty long before installing a new version.

Depending on what you want to do with the system itself either will do in a pinch. Since I have been using like Ubuntu since 2005. I like Ubuntu over windows. But due to working in an office environment. I still have to use windows to do most of my work in that over here. Since Ubuntu or the Linux environement is not that popular in an office environment. With the exception of the server side where it is most stable to use on Server sides. |

I like them both. But I do find myself using Windows a lot more. But sometimes I like to get back into Ubuntu and just use is. Both are great, and both do basically the same thing. |

Being I haven't used Windows regularly in years, definitely Ubuntu. I am not sure I could ever go back to Windows again. |
|
I have gone back and forth between Ubuntu and Windows for many users now, but I think finally, I have made the decision to stick with Ubuntu and never go back to Windows unless I really need to, such as work or whatever, but even then I'll be using a work computer. For my everyday computing, Ubuntu will be my OS of choice :) |

I use Ubuntu as my current operating system. I boot off of my Asus Ultrabook. And it works fine. I edit videos and do my photo editing on ubuntu. I think that Ubuntu is way more stable than Windows. |

i find no reason to go back to windows for office and I know many many who use Ubuntu in the office setting and love it , the popularity of Ubuntu and mint have multiplied over the last 18 months .. with the popularity of android smart phones Linux is the most used OS on computing devices it will take time but eventually people will get around to recognizing it.. Linux and I-os are the two main player in the market now there are more Phone and soon tablets will be added in to this fray there are more sold and in use every min of every day then there are windows PCs everyone here is still asking if we think linux will gain in popularity soon now its already there and has been for sometime now and took over the lead not really all that quietly . |
