Since someone already released a deskeop app and someone requested a android app. I decided to release the android app I did a while ago, but just do not have the time anymore.

We have two apps, a direct for android development and another one that was converted from Craighton's iOS app (that is rejected by Apple) known as the "remix" version. The remix version has some things that do not work (and I do not handle the development of the app, only porting and compiling).

PLEASE NOTE: There are still some imperfections on the app and since I do not have a lot of time do continue develop it, I am putting more development on hiatus for a undetermined amount of time. Also with the remix app, I am only responsible for the library change and compile for Android, other things are not responsible by me.

Main Version (beta)

Remix version (heavy alpha)

Also: these are Android APK. To install it, here is a instruction on installing it http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/how_sideload_android_apps. Hopefully with some funding, I can submit it to the Google Play Store.

If/When an updated version comes out I'd be more than willing to donate to help cover the costs of putting it on the play store.

Also, would you be willing to upload the source somewhere? Since you said you probably won't continue with this.

@Zbob750 I agree, would be interested in that.

I'm downloading and installing it now.

Sorry in advance for the crappy pictures, my phone doesn't do screen-captures.

App Remix: UI isn't appealing, as you said it is a carryover from an iOS app so it does look similar to an iOS app. Some functions dont work, I get the error of "Look at the BT_screen_rssReader.java file" when I try to access Lockergnome on the updates side. Live video is not working, Social media works when you click the show in browser button. Overall, this is a fail. Yes it is a "Heavy Alpha", I get it, but yeah. alt text

alt text Main Version: UI isn't appealing also, but you can get to your action quickly and easily thanks to the large buttons. Everything works, I just don't get why when you click on something, you get sent to the webpage. It seems kind of redundant if you know the website, you can go to the website directly instead of using the app. Also, social media does not work, for example when I click on Chris's Facebook, I get sent to a black page. I give this app a good from me, but it still needs a bit more work. It's not ready for prime time, but I think you have something good here.

I'd download and work on the Main Version as the App Remix is a lot of work to do, and in my opinion is just not worth it. I uninstalled the App Remix, it's not worth it. Thanks @Craighton for working on it, I appreciate it. It sucks that it wasn't accepted on the App Store, maybe you can put it on the Cydia store, encourage us to jailbreak! It looks like a good iOS app, not a good Android app though.

I am using a HTC MyTouch 4G (HTC Glacier) running on Gingerbread 2.3.4.

Thanks for letting us download it! I appreciate that you guys did try to do ports and make apps. I know it's hard, but good looking out you guys! Thanks @Craighton and @Kevin for your hard work.

I only work on the main version, the remix is coded differently that I can't really comprehend correctly.

Also, I am trying to make the app a quick and easy way to get things. I have to compensate extra activity for simplicity.

Also, long click the buttons, it will redirect to a browser if you need more data since not all sites are mobile friendly.

Works okay with a tablet but the text doesn't really scale properly

edit: noticed a few scrolling issues as well as redraring issues when it comes to text (if you zoom in on a web page)

I recorded a video and uploaded it to youtube as an unlisted video http://youtu.be/TDa7LzZYfeA

I know, but I can trying to get compatibility here....

I do not have the time to remake it so that it will be scaled correctly

hmm, no problem, it greatly increases the ease of use for mobile devices with a small screen and works great with the HTC mytouch 3g slide. Having it work well with tablets is a plus but nit as important as the larger device makes browsing the non mobile versions of the various sites easier to use.

Even Though I don't have an IRC client installed, a better message would be nice. Something like "You don't have an IRC client installed. Would you like to download one?" With a link to the Play store. alt text alt text alt text alt text

I'm not an android user. :( is there some way we can test the *.apk on some sort of emulator?

Yes, if you have the android platform tools setup on your system, you can download an emulator for a specific version (via the sdk tools) and run it. Then you would use adb to push the app to the emulator and install it.

So once you've started the emulator you should open up CMD or Terminal if you're using OS X or linux then type "adb devices" to make sure adb sees the emulator. If it does then change your directory to wherever the apk is, then type "adb install <name>"

Unfortunately this method will be much slower because you are emulating the device instead of natively running it.
