Hello Everyone, I am looking for the best linux distro, for web development and programming. Any suggestions? Thanks |

they are all best for development depends on what you add to it for web developement start with a server addition with the works CGI, PHp, asp, sql, python . this will give you a web server ftp, server, mail deamon, IRC server, what part of the web do you want to develope, bottom line when you are using linux is do you know programing because open any text editor and knowing the right words any thing you write becomes a script :) the question really is what part of the web do you want to develop ?? |

While I'm sure that someone, somewhere, has created a specific linux distro aimed directly towards web development (There's a distro for almost anything, beauty of linux) I am not familiar with one. @jadtechnic makes a very good point though, most distros will work just fine for web development. A lot of the things you will need for web development are easy to download via the software center (or apt-get) and can be installed on nearly any distro. If you are new to linux though you will want to stick with one of the larger, more well-known, better supported distros. I used to point new users to Ubuntu but not everyone cares for the direction its taking. But, as I said, if you're new stick to a larger, more well known distro because they will have better support and a larger community. Good Luck! you can build your own distributions or type of OS from any flavor linux linux is just a kernel a base platform to install and launch programs and or develop or write them .. the internet web liturally run on linux almost every thing you see load or read can be or is being production through linux .. That's what I was saying. You wouldn't technically need a distro specifically for web development because of that. I can see the appeal of one because a lot of people don't like to setup programs and settings; they just want to get in and go so to speak :) Have you checked with http://www.distrowatch.com Who knows it might be posted on there. Since there are about 350+ distros out there of Linux and unix combined. I know for a fact that there are way more than that :) and No, not to make it sound like I don't care, but I just didn't bother to look. In truth you shouldn't need a distro specifically for this. But you should convert your comment to an answer so that the asker can see your suggestion :) |
