Always in the passed, Windows has been the main Operating System for gaming. With the new Windows 8 right around the corner, do you think it will be made for gaming? with the new way of using the computer with the Metro UI, Gaming might be different, unless you put a Mouse and Keyboard in front of you.

And how do you think Gaming will be for Windows 8?

It's already clear that Windows 8 has been made for tablets.

Windows 9? You mean Windows 8?

(Aug 17 '12 at 06:25) Curtis Coburn Curtis%20Coburn's gravatar image

windows 8 = vista, windows 9 = lets fix this s*** and ship it(MS)

Haha well that might be true. But I want to see Windows 8 at least try to be successful. It's a whole new way to compute. And I'm ready for a change. I don't really want to wait another 5 years for Microsoft to fix things.

We will see when it ships.

personally i really like the design elements in the desktop environment, its a huge update, if metro wasnt there i ll be like "shut up and take my money" for windows 8, people who have run it saying its faster on old machines(courtesy review on lockergnome)

Windows 8 isn't that much different under the hood. It will be fine for gaming. When the game loads you won't know the difference.

no it won't the game manufactures are going to boycott it. i'm pretty sure they are just the first ones to boycott it.

No major game company will boycott W8, they'd have to be crazy to. Sure, they may have some concerns, but with all the performance optimizations and new technologies under the hood, Metro aside, W8 will be an improvement to gamers.

The Metro UI will do little for gaming, because it will offer little to most apps. The Live Tiles and other Metro features are usable only by apps installed through the new Windows 8 app store. The most we can do with anything else is simply pin it onto the start screen to give it a big icon, and thats about it.

Yes it has some performance improvements without bumping up the requirements, but thats not gaming specific.

Unless microsoft opens up Metro more then no, it will offer you nothing new for gaming.

So, do you think the current games for Windows 7 will be compatible with Windows 8? Or will the developers make them compatible for windows 8?

(Aug 17 '12 at 10:20) Curtis Coburn Curtis%20Coburn's gravatar image

Yes most Windows 7 applications should work just fine, because really that is what the desktop view is for, legacy or non-windows 8 applications.

If an application is going to be made available via the store, then yes it is likely to get updated with Metro functionality, but otherwise there is no need for windows 8 updates.

no I dont think windows will be a gaming system I mean other then Xbox there cloud is I beleve too going to have game aps like facebook ..

computer games are moving from the windows platform lots are heading for linux , everything you have known windows for that matter the face of computing over all things shifting and fast ..

in another year the tablet model is going to be far more embedded in the fabric of all we do and I think you will see gaming moving in to the market Nintendo ds, Sony PS offering up tablets a cloud gaming services tie to more social networking community phone tablet text phone ..

its all getting clique like for facebook to servive I see it heading this way to soon investing in facebook device that mainly links to just them like mircosoft is moving toward like apple is moving toward and such ..

i think by 2020 computing as it is today will almost not exsit each device is going to bring its own flsavor and experance and while linking your sites just on it ..

Knowing ourselves, we will buy the latest and greatest from Microsoft one way or another. If you buy a new laptop after Windows 8 comes out, you'll automatically get Windows 8. Windows 8 isn't that bad. Windows 8 actually is faster than Windows 7 in a couple of tasks, such as boot up time, file transfers, etc. Sure you can play games on Windows 8, I mean it's compatible with games like San Andreas, and Space Cadet (from XP). I say we just move on, go to Windows 8. I need to ask, have any of you tried Windows 8 for an extended amount of time? Not just 5 minutes, I mean a full on week, or month? You'll see why Windows 8's metro interface grows on you, and you actually prefer it on some tasks.

Actually I never tried windows 8. I want to go to the microsoft store to try one.

(Aug 17 '12 at 11:11) Curtis Coburn Curtis%20Coburn's gravatar image

You should try it by using it on a Virtual Machine. Download VirtualBox, and download the .iso from the Microsoft site. It's worth it in my opinion.

Until I see performance videos for Steam and all the games I play on Windows 8, I'm happy with 7.

I have still yet to try out Windows 8 but i hear alot of developers talking bad about Windows 8 like Gabe Newell and Blizzard Entertainment. Here are some links: http://kotaku.com/5929067/gabe-newell-wants-to-support-linux-because-windows-8-is-a-catastrophe

http://kotaku.com/5929569/blizzard-isnt-happy-with-windows-8-either

I dont realy get why microsoft is aiming for the Tablet market. I dont have a tablet and i dont realy want one neither as what i have seen all it has is some apps for it and the news and internet browser, stuff like that.
