So I'm watching TV, and I keep seeing commercials for Windows 7, and some of the commercials are of the buy a laptop for college, get a XBOX 360. I'm wondering if Windows 8 is already at RTM, and the release date isn't for another 2 months as of today, why arent they putting some commericals out? I mean August-September isn't too early if October 26th is the release date. What do you guys think?

It is a way of continuing to make a profit. They do not want the consumers to wait for something and thus loosing money and profit.

Microsoft still wants to get people to purchase the operating system available and later encourage them to pay more and upgrade

There are a couple of commercials that mention it, but they usually only mention that "if you buy a PC today, you can upgrade to Windows 8 for just $15!"

Microsoft, along with PC Manufacturers, won't cannibalize their current sales buy advertising a product that isn't ready to ship just yet. When it comes to electronics, you don't want to advertise then newest thing until you get rid of most of the older stuff first. Apple won't even mention their newest products until a week or two before shipping at most (unless it's a developer announcement).

yeah thats not far from the truthI worked in manufacturing and stuff was done at least 2 saesons in advance , we did christams stuff all spring and summer long and easter and summer stuff all fall and winter long so what we made had time to be decorated fill package boxed and ready for delivery so everyone knew what they were doing in terms of sales and advertising with enough lead in time and before time and space for the advertising was sold out ..

when I worked in radio the sales were always 4 to 8 months in advance so there was planing and production time and such ..

it goes deeper then that when it come to big busines holidays specail occasions my wife is the general manager of a fair sized hotel , in the center of down town and there are reservation for room and meeting conferences, weddings as much as 2 and half to three years out there are days already for 2014 already they can tell people are booked full ..
