I have Just bought a new GPU. Its the HD 7870, When i play bf3 on ultra i get 70+ fps But when i record with fraps i get like 25 And it jumps to 60 back to 25. It has its own HDD. What i think he problem is that i have the GPU plugged in to the PSU 6 pin connector. if i bought a 2 IDE to 6 pin would that fix it? I have had this problem before but i don't remember how i fixed it. I also Recored with fraps. (UPDATE) I sent the card back.

Technically, the 6 pin would work better, but it doesn't matter, What are the specs of your pc, and what do you mean you have a separate hard drive?

Fraps as its own hard drive.

oh you're saving the video to a separate HDD, correct? and that honestly wouldn't help much since most entities are loaded before you would start recording

It's likely that the computer is not powerful enough to record at this quality.

What are your specs and I'll be able to answer you more accurately on this?

Yeah, I think that his CPU is underpowered for this task.

AMD cards take advantage of your CPU when rendering. Monitor your system and ATI overdrive and see if it's all on your processor. You should be able to lock in a clock and memory speed and save it as a recording profile. When I render composites my 5450 maxes out my CPU and my GPU does very little. I'm pretty sure it's the same with southern islands cards.

When Overdrive isn't enabled the clock and memory settings are dynamic. Here's mine bottomed out at idle.

Ok i did. I maxed out just Cause 2 and without recording i got 60fps And when recording it stayed at 60 then went down to 20 then back up then down again. Looking at the Gpu activity i was lag spiking when the frames dropped. and the CPU activity seemed to jump a bit. i think you were right, but if so how do i fix it?

Can you set a clock and memory speed in ATI Overdrive?

(Aug 28 '12 at 02:46) ClosetFuturist ClosetFuturist's gravatar image

Yes, i can.

It may still use the CPU but then at least the soft clock wouldn't have to ramp up.

So what do i do ?

(Aug 28 '12 at 12:52) Maysen Maysen's gravatar image
