After many years, the old cartridge games moved to digital compact disks. Well, with all of the new solid state devices with growing space and speed, don't you think it would be a good idea to move to solid state?

Some of the benefits are that data can be saved to the device and there are no worries about scratches or breaking. With more space and speed, games can load faster and have more game play with much better graphics.

So the question is: Do you think we should go back to using cartridges for games? And why (or why not)?

Too expensive, where as the blank CDs and cartridges are/were semi-cheap and note that flash drives, although prices dropping are still pretty expensive and right now, sure a 4gb flashdrive is like 2-5$ but games are starting to get bigger, blu ray disks can hold 64gb of game files (which happens to be my entire steam library) but as internet speeds increase digital media distribution gets easier and faster, (the the poor saps like me with slow internet, but I digress) either when the price goes down for solid state drives and flashdrives, or everything will be on the cloud and easily downloaded or even games like half life playable in a browser, completely cutting out any physical media

USB sticks all the way, yes we are moving away from solid memory. but there will always be some physical memory option, in my opinion that will be some sort of USB memory like a usb stick for example

I expect in the not to distant future games will all move to the cloud like everything else and the consoles we all know today will become a thing of the past in some ways ..

The game industry is slowly moving away from any sort of packaging. Right now digital distribution through online stores like steam is the most cost effective solution. Web based games are barely feasible now because of the performance issues the are native to the code base and the unevenly distributed bandwidth. Quake Live failed for these reasons and Second Life is limited by it. Cloud gaming is being looked at by some of the developers and is thought to be a viable platform for the future.

They should always continue to use some sort of media because my bandwidth is limited because of the infrastructure in my area. It would be hard for me to download games all the time.
