This is an awesome question! I once had this myself, and another technician taught me the path to follow to get where I am today!
Get certified with CompTIA: A+, Network+, then Security+
Think about where you want to go from there...
You can go on with networking and get your CCNA, or go with Microsoft for a more Sys Admin style career. Choose wisely young padawan; I've seen Sys Admin jobs cap off around $70,000 annually. Networking can lead to the cloud, also. Just think of what your favorite part of technology you love most and start studying!
A great site I use for studying (other than books from Amazon) is LearnSmart Systems. In the past they were known as PrepLogic. They had the best customer service I'd ever received.
Most of all, good luck!
I am CompTIA A+ and Network+ certified now. It helped me reach a starting technician job with DynCorp, Intl. I love this field--just remember not everyone is a technician because they love the field. (Don't let this be disheartening!)

Great advice by DJ Moore! Make sure that you're always learning, and keeping abreast of the changing tides. If you're looking to grab a foothold in the industry by studying, start with a vocational computer technician training program online, and then work your way up with additional certifications like DJ recommended.
