Apple Cinema Display

Hello Chris,

First of all I would like to thank you for replying to my question. I have installed an antivirus on my VM. So thanks once again for your help.

I have one more question which is bothering me for so many days. I have got a unibody MacBook Pro, the one that came with Mini Display Port. I also have an Apple Cinema Display hooked up with my MBP. So my new MacBook Air has thunderbolt, the apple store in Dubai told me that there is no convertor from Mini Display to Thunderbolt and I am stuck with this display as I wont be able to connect it with my Air. Is that true? If yes then is there any solution for this problem of mine?

Not true.

Thunderbolt has Mini DisplayPort built-in. All you have to do is plug your Cinema Display's Mini DP cable into your MacBook Air's Thunderbolt port and it will work just fine. There is no need for Thunderbolt to Mini DP adapters; like I said, Mini DP is built-in to Thunderbolt.

There are some things to keep in mind. For example, a Mini DP cable can't transmit Thunderbolt signals. Let's say you had a MacBook Air with a Mini DP port and an Apple Thunderbolt Display. You can't use Thunderbolt because your MacBook Air doesn't have the port, but you CAN still use a Mini DP cable. The monitor itself will still work, but none of the extra ports on the back (Ethernet, FireWire) will work because those require Thunderbolt. Your situation is the opposite, however, so just plug the Cinema Display into your Air's Thunderbolt port and you're good to go!
