For all the computer gurus, how did you learn what you know? Did you learn them in a school setting with books and teachers? Or did you have a more hands on approach by yourself. I.e. building your computer from the floor up and learned through trail and error. Which do you think is best for learning about computers or learning any skill at that?

When it came to building my computer, I watched numerous Newegg videos. When it came time to build the computer, I just took all of the knowledge that I accumulated from that and made sure that everything was being connected correctly.

When it came to HTML, I just Google'd the effect that I was looking for, and magically found an answer.

As learning in school is concerned, I generally forget everything in the chapter a week after I take the test, so something is clearly not working when it comes to education.

I learned buy hanging out online with geeks, artists, gamers and overclockers. I have a hard time learning with books.

Here's a more qualified opinion.
