Hey guys! So, websites..yeah I can build one from scratch but I'm lazy to and it's too time consuming. I'm busy all week. I could make my life easier and use a service like SquareSpace but I just don't want to cough out that kind of money. So my question is, should I use Wordpress or just build one from scratch over time? Or should I just spend the money on services like squarespace?

Depends, do what you want, its your site. if you want to have a custom hand-crafted website then build it yourself, if you want to have a nice looking site but cbb to code it yourself then get a nice theme and use wordpress (you mentioned coughing up money, you might need to cough up a little for a nice theme...)

http://themeforest.net/ look around dat site for some nice themes. ;-o0

Maybe if you want to hand craft the site then pick up this nifty little WIP theme

http://themeforest.net/item/donner-under-construction-page/2735992?WT.ac=portfolio_thumb&WT.seg_1=portfolio_thumb&WT.z_author=DryThemes

for only $6.00 ! install it onto your homepage of the domain and use that untill your hand coded site is ready, untill then either develop your custom site on a local drive or on a WIP FTP Directory e.g "/wip-site" "Yoursite.com/wip-site" :)

If its not that you cbb to hand code the site, its just you cbb to keep going into the code to update it, then maybe build the site off a custom wordpress theme :)

I recommend word press though I dont recommend even this for someone busy all the time because even word press takes time it will take at least a week to get install all the plugins you want found and installed after that getting them working is a detail that's every day .

even after that to make the page active not dead like millions of others you are going to have to spend several hours a day creating posting content through out the day and several more hours tracking what content you post grabs the most interest ..

being cheap not wanting to pay that dont cut it either as even if you use wordpress only some of that is free before your sight is finished it could be costing you bare minimum of $300 a year and in some cases more

at the very least just with update of everything and I find at least everyday there is 1 security update for a plugin with wordpress of some nature and article update to keep the site active bare minimum 20 or more hours a week , then there is the unexpected crashes and debugging of things that stop working , wordpress is free but it is a lot of aps and API plug ins all working just out of the box nothing added its over 103 of them and they dont work perfectly or play nice all the time..

keep in mind wordpres is not a static web site it is meant to change continually it is connected to your email address if something isnt write or even if it is going well you will get tons of email setting it up for an address you dont have to deal with dont make any sence really no point in having the site if you dont care .. I have a small wordpress and I get over 700 emails every 24 hours from the site between site its connected to company's programmers and people who read stories .. they dont call it social media for nothing it keeps you completely active demands attention and after a few months can be come all there is nearly time for ..

So what you're saying is that I should just use a company like SquareSpace and not have to worry about maintaining the site? It's not really that I'm being cheap, it's just that money doesn't come my way that easily and I'm being buried alive with school work and the family business trying to take off. If like you said doing it on my own will cost around $300 or more, I'd be more than happy to pay about $100+ for SquareSpace! If that is the case, then I'll go with SquareSpace..once I got the time to :/
