So with the new charging cable change in the coveted iPhone 5 why is it not micro USB? I for one thought that Apple would change the chargers soon, but why to another proprietary connector? Everyone else is using micro USB, the other end of their cable is obviously a USB connector so why do they have to be different? |

Control. Apple wants to control what is used on their devices. |

I could be wrong and don't quote me on this, but I think Apple gets a cut when third party accessory manufacturers make their own cables since Apple owns the "technology" unlike micro USB where anybody is free to make their own cable. |

If it breaks, you pretty much have to buy a new one from Apple. It's a business, and they're out for profit. If they thought it would actually cost them a consequential amount of business, they'd probably change it, but they know it doesn't. |
