How can I delete a person from a picture on either Photoshop CS5 or GIMP on Mac?

I want to keep the background; I don't want it to go white.

Any help, please?

well that is just not possible, at least not directly you will have to reconstruct the background and that all depends on the background. You probably should look for online tutorials and just learn more about the program before you do such a thing.

You would need to have a picture with the person on it, and the same picture without the person, then you merge layers.
