What's the best Mac for graphics designer? With maximum price of $700-1000? |
|
The Macbook Pro, pretty much. With that price range however, you're overbudget with NEW Macbook Pros. However, look up on Amazon or Craigslist for last years' model for lower prices. Macbook Pro (MD313LL/A) Used listing: http://goo.gl/bkk1u What about the specs? Copypasta from Amazon's site: 2.4 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 Processor 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM 500 GB Hard Drive, 8x DVD/CD SuperDrive 13.3-Inch LED-backlit Display, 1280-by-800 Resolution, Intel HD Graphics 3000 Mac OS X v10.7 Lion, 7 Hour Battery Life Is Intel HD 3000 graphics enough? What about dual-core? 1
If you plan to use photoshop and deal with high resolution images then the HD3000 is not enough as you will not get photoshop's full GPU acceleration and if you plan to do 3D modeling then avoid a laptop all together, they are not designed for having the CPU at full load for days on end (and with pretty recent mac book pro's, if the ambient temperature is in the upper 70's to around 80F+ then rendering a 3d model can easily cause the CPU to throttle. If you need portability and plan to do a lot of high res image work then look for a laptop that has a decent GPU, from personal experience, anything below a radeon 6650m or a geforce gt 630m or equivalent will have trouble properly accelerating photoshop (especially if you are manipulating photos that are around 16+ megapixels, with a good GPU, there is no noticable delay when using the variouus tools but with a lower end GPU, the effects trail the verious tools, thus forcing you to work extremely slowly to avoid making mistakes. 1
I agree with @Razor512, you either have to A) Step up your money to $1500 or so, or B) Forget the Mac and go with a Windows PC. |

In you're budget, I'd highly recommend a PC. I can make recommendations if you want. |
