Vista doesnt recognize ExFat external drive

I get the error "you need to format the disk before use". now i know the drive is not corrupted because i tried it on a windows7 laptop which was not mine, and thank god it was ok. but i need to make it work on the vista pc in my possession (which is also not mine) at the moment. Is there something i should do that im not aware about?

Is there some part of "you need to format the disk before use" that you're having difficulty with? Clearly the Vista on this computer cannot work with the present format of the disk. Either format it so that it can or don't use it with this computer. Rocket science it ain't!
