I'm running windows vista. I have connection to the Internet however my web browsers says it cannot access the web page for any web page we try. Have tried using IE and chrome. Both have the same problem. Can ping to facebook without a problem. Have tried wired and wireless connections. Any ideas?

I think Norton is the culprit here, you are clearly connected to the internet and resolving DNS (pinging facebook.com resolved its ip) I have had this exact problem on client machines countless times.

download and run the norton removal tool:

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

then reinstall Norton, or even better find a more substantial product like ESET Nod32 and install that instead!

You should find this fixes your problem.

Let me know how you get on.

Check proxy settings. Some viruses setup a bogus proxy and browsers behave that way. Try typing the Facebook IP into the browser, see if that gets you there.

Nope, IE works now but not chrome. Neither norton or malware bytes can update their virus databases either.

How about this? Go on Safe Mode and maybe MBAM can update their databases. If that doesn't work, burn this Rescue CD. http://download.avg.com/filedir/inst/avg_arl_cdi_all_120_120823a5226.iso

How about clearing any cookies in chrome. As I can see down below you are actually pinging the ip address and it is responding like it should. Usually Clearing cookies and temp files for both browsers will usually fix some temp files that have gone corrupt locally. And since IE is working.
