Earlier in a Lockergnome video, I heard Chris saying that Windows 8 will cost $40.00 for those who want to upgrade to Windows 8, and $15.00 for those who bought a Windows 7 PC within the year, that you would get a discount. With the Release of the versions of Windows 8 and their pricing, the cheapest version is $70.00. I was surprised to see the price, because I was expecting to see $40.00. Is anyone else surprised, or did I hear something wrong? Or might it be just because this is just the pre-order? Meaning that it will cost more? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416550 Windows 8^ |

The $15 upgrade offer is only for computers that have been purchased a couple of months before Windows 8 is released. The $40 upgrade offer is available to anyone who wants to upgrade their copy of Windows XP, Vista, or 7 before January 2013. It is only available as a digital download from Microsoft themselves. The $70 upgrade price is for a physical copy of the upgrade disk. The $100 version you linked to is a Full version of Windows 8, not an upgrade. This would be used for a new machine that is not being upgraded. |

The $15 upgrade is only if you recently bought the computer. I honestly do not know where the $40 came from. |

Certain stores are providing the upgrade (from 7 to 8) for free, if you buy a certain computer within the time. I believe the price was going to start low and gradually increase, possibly to encourage early adoption of the platform |

Anybody know the price of Windows 8 but like the full license to install on a new bootcamp partition? I know Win 7 is like around $100 but I might as well just wait for 8 if the price is right since I will only use Windows for all my steam games that aren't available for OSX. |
