For quite a few years now I have been using Norton 360 for my antivirus, I have never paid full price by going to either amazon or buy.com.

But my question is why do people not like it? I have not had a bad experience with them. I have heard people complain about how their software bogs down systems, of which I myself have not experienced.

So I am a little confused as to what the big deal is, can someone give a good answer with their experience?

It earned a bad reputation in the past for causing lag and being generally glitchy. Norton has improved, but people still consider it poor simply because of its bad reputation. There is nothing wrong with Norton. But alternatives like AVG just have a better name

I used to use Norton on one of my old computer the problem was that back in 2004 Norton really slowed down your system. It ran really slow and never really caught much. The newer versions of Norton have actually stepped up to the point where it really doesn't lag your computer and it catches most viruses without much trouble. For a long time I could not recommend Norton anti virus to anyone, however now I am willing to recommend it to people only if they do not have to pay for it, because more internet service providers offer free anti virus and Comcast offers Norton 360. I however will not recommend McAfee to anyone after 3 bad experiences without it catching any of the viruses on a three computers owned by three different people until the system would barely boot.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T530 with an i7 processor and a 9 cell battery, I can get 6-8 hours on it with Norton running. My question also said that I have not noticed my computer being bogged down.

In the case of Norton 360 I have never had an update that was even 200mb, the entire program only runs on 134MB. It also quietly updates in the background and I do not have to worry about it.

So I guess I'm a little puzzled at where this information is coming form... can you explain?

For what I noticed was that it slows down the computer and makes it lag during the scan, Well that is what happens on the computers at school. When they scan the computers with Norton the computer tends to slow down a lot and lag. It might just happen on the computers at school or maybe it's Norton but for me I do not like it because it is so hard to use

I used the Norton software suite once upon a time ago on my old Mac G3 but found it useless, just didn't need it. When I purchased an HP Pavilion in 2008 it came bundled with Norton and discovered Norton blocked Second Life. I didn't really appreciate Norton until recently when it has finally improved. I don't use it on my Windows machine, but decided to try it out again on my Mac (you can get it free on the AppStore) and it works pretty well as an on-demand scanner. I also use ClamXav to scan my email inbox also. Norton has improved.

I used Norton when I first got my PC but only used the trial for 30 days. From my time using the anti virus I actually liked it a lot. I thought it had a lot of features that were very useful. It has always protected me from things, and I liked that when I downloaded a file that it scanned the file.

The anti virus I don't like is Kaspersky. Once when I downloaded a file, Kaspersky didn't protect me from it, and computer crashed. So, I had to manually remove the virus from the computer. Then I quickly removed Kaspersky and installed MSE. So far, MSE is great. It has never failed me, and when they think something is wrong, they let me know.

Because it is bundled with absoutely everything. If you must really shove a product down someone's throat all the time then it is going to annoy people, capability or not.

That will give a program a bad reputation however well it performs or not.
