Softphone recommendation

Hi. I just started to use a softphone (my new phone company provided the software as part of the service). But is very bad software! Just to start, dial tones is a pain, when using the softphone to call to my bank and an automated operator answers, using the dial pad on the software sometimes works, sometimes not. Same if is use the numeric keyboard on my computer. Do you have any free recommendation? I just know it has to be SIP compliant. Thanks.
