So basically over the last few weeks, my twitter account has been following random accounts. People I've never heard of are showing up on my timeline and twitter says I'm following them. They are all real accounts (not eggs or spam) I just don't know what's going on and make it stop

Yeah, that does seem like something that would happen if your account was hacked. Changing passwords, maybe even your e-mail address on the account, should be a priority.
