My question/concern: I have a very paranoid friend. We talk on Skype everyday. After him hearing about this whole Skype can listen to your calls thing, he is now refusing to use Skype. And Aim is a no-no for him too. Just to add more, he uses DuckDuckGo.com as a search engine because he does not like Google following him. Do you know of ANY solution to this? Is there a better IMing software? Thanks so much. :/ |

Yahoo Messenger? Tinychat? IRC? Live Messenger? *25 Characters |

first and foremost, unless your traffic is encrypted, anyone can listen in, idk if Skype uses encryption or not. Second, if they have time at skype to listen to what people are saying, then they need to lay off people. Third, and I could be wrong on this, when talking to computer to computer Skype just connects you and the traffic does not go though Skype, I do know that skype does not save chat based messages on their servers Finally, i would be more concerned with the virus that is going around on Skype, and the bottom line is don't click links and don't download files from unknown websites. |

You can call him on the phone. You can use Google Talk, or Google plus Hangouts. There also is YA Messenger or Windows Live messenger. |

Skype can't hear your conversations, it would be illegal for them to do that unless stated in the T&C. He has nothing to worry about |

oovoo is free and pretty much the same as skype but better! You know how if you only have a free skype account you can't video chat with more than 2 people? Well with oovoo you can video chat with more than 2 people at the same time still for free! |

Sign up to a SIP provider. like voiceflex or voiplicity to name but a few (these are UK based providers) then you can register a free soft phone like X-Lite (google it) to the SIP account or even better purchase an IP deskphone (polycom, yealink and snom are popular ip phone manufacturers) |
