My friend just bought a used M4400 of Craigslist last night. He tore it apart today to clean it but now he put it back together and it won't boot. It turns the back light flashes then it turns off. Hes tried everything we can think of. (Resetting ram, CPU, and CMOS.) Please help.

Tell him to take it apart again, then double check the heatsink. Also make sure that he put all of the screws in the correct spots, most dell laptops have have screw holes that are not used but have the option for a screw.

PS not all dell lapptops will boot if the keyboard ribbon cable is loose.

If possible (depending on how the power contacts are), get some cardboard or find a wood surface then take the motherboard out, then place it on the wood surface. then connect just the LCD panel, and keyboard and power cable (this is mainly to rule out any issues with the motherboard shorting on anything in the case)
