Who is your favorite Doctor and why? Tom Baker and David Tennant, and "because he was the first one I saw" seem to be the popular answers; what's yours?

I think every actor who's played the part of the Doctor has given the role his all, and I enjoy every last one of 'em.

I feel bad that Colin Baker got the shaft with the hiatus and subsequent firing -- he never really got the chance to prove himself and develop into what many might consider to be a more "likeable" Doctor.

I also feel bad that Sylvester McCoy, who I think made an excellent Doctor with a somewhat Patrick Troughton angle to his style, got the shaft with some of the worst storylines toward the end of the "original" series, and then met his demise in such an anti-climactic way in the 1996 movie (which I only saw once and hated -- not because of Paul McGann, who could have been a great series Doctor, but because... well, there are reasons too numerous to name here).

Tom Baker was the Doctor that introduced me to the series, and he'll probably always be my favorite. I think, of all the Doctors, he really conveyed the "alien" part of the Doctor most convincingly (to me, anyway).

I wish Eccleston had at least done another season. Tennant was, of course, incredible. And I think Matt Smith has been great from day one.

I'd love to see them do a multi-Doctor episode with the most recent incarnations at some point (as they've done in the past with The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors, and The Two Doctors). Heck, even squeeze McGann in there and give him a proper episode!

Yeah, I enjoyed Eccleston a lot, too. He was the first doctor I knew.

David Tennent he was my favorite because he was the doctor who really got me caught onto the series and I was so mad when they booted him for the new guy and I don't remember his name yet but I think hes still pretty funny and is a good actor.

It was more of a career move for Tennant. I think he loved playing The Doctor, but as an actor, it was time for him to move on so he could accept other roles. If he'd stayed on, like Tom Baker did for seven years, he'd have had time for little else.

The only Doctor who has officially been "booted" was Colin Baker, mainly because of office politics going on at the BBC during his time on the series.

Favorite Doctor? As in a doctor on television?

Dr House of course! The guy can tell what's wrong with you just by looking at you. (Too bad he's a fictional doctor :/)

My favorite non-medical doctor is Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, DFA (Doctor of fine arts), and unlike House, he's real.

Er ... you did actually watch House? Far from determining the problem by looking at you it generally took him several misdiagnoses and at least one potentially lethal treatment before reaching the correct decision just in time (or realising that you're gonna die anyway!) Absolutely the last doctor you'd want on your case! He could only exists in fiction!

David Tennant was the best doctor ever. Though truthfully, I like all of them. But you just can't beat Tennant. He was smart, witty, and was always able to work his way out of any situation, though he didn't seem like he would be able to.

I'm really liking Matt Smith so far, though. I think he's definitely got great potential. I still miss Tennant, though.

I liked Tom Baker when I was watching those old episodes with Gran & Granma, but I also liked David Tennant. I'm indifferent, and happy to see the yearly change or whatever it seems to be. They seem to choose good Doctors.

Dr. House is great (and it's his birthday today!), but I like Dr. Lightman better. Lie To Me is SOOO good.

Watching the episodes with Tom Baker, I'd say he is definitely one of the best, but I really like David Tennant as the Doctor. He was the first one that I watched, and the one that got me started liking the show. Also, Matt Smith is an absolute gem, and with Steven Moffat directing, he may just become one of the best.

Ah, yes! I remember going to conventions in the '80s and Jon Pertwee would mingle with the crowd in his Worzel Gummidge getup -- in character, too!

Pertwee was definitely the James Bond incarnation of the Doctor.

David Tennant is still at the top of my list, since he's my first doctor. However, Matt Smith is now replacing David Tennant in my dreams, which makes me sad. I'm really impressed with him so far!

I also agree with John, Lie to Me is one of the BEST shows on television right now!
