If you have been reading any of my other questions, then you know I am in the market for a MacBook Pro. I currently have a 21.5 inch 3.06 GHz i3 iMac, but I really want a laptop for the portability. This is kind of a two part question so here goes...
1) Which processor is better, 3.06 GHz i3 or 2.4 GHz i5 (from the MBP in question)
2) Any recommendations for a computer that I should get? I need a laptop, preferably Mac (definitely Mac) that is under $1100. I am looking at this one...http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD313LL/A

0.7ghz won't be a huge difference since both are dual core. The main thing is, your iMac has dedicated video memory, while this particular Macbook, has shared video memory. If you are planning to do gaming I would look for one with dedicated. Otherwise this one would be just fine. I myself have a Macbook White unibody 2010 (yes, the kind they discontinued) and it performs excellently and gets good battery life when I am doing internet stuff. Right now the estimate is around 6 hours for an 80% charge. I am also running iTunes. Gaming is decent on low-mediam graphics but the Macbook Pros have about 100mb more video RAM so it will probably run things on higher settings.

If you are going to do some gaming, the MacBook Pro (that's linked) isn't going to be better.
For video encoding, the MacBook Pro's CPU is going to be better (however, you won't notice the difference if you're not going to be using heavier applications like iMovie, CS5, FCP, Motion, etc.)
I strongly recommend looking for MacBook Pros on your local Craigslist, because you can usually snag a great deal (maybe a 1-2 generation old stock MBP 13" for $800).
