Has it occurred to anyone that lockergnome.net has an insecure login, and the login data is sent in plain text?

It never occurred to me. Login is just fine with me.

It is also worth to note that GoDaddy does only charge $70 a year for an SSL certificate, cheaper if you sign up for more years, and sometimes they go on sale.

I have noticed that mot much security is used but it didn't really matter since no personal info is stored, the generated password is unique to this site, and it is not much of a target.

Not unless you sign in via Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. I mean I do use my local login all of the time, but I'm also not worried as the email and password they're connected to I could easily replace.

This may be true, but what's the problem? It's a small site and everyone here seems friendly. Even if you did get hacked, no one knows who you are so if you used the same passwords on other sites nobody can hack those. Chris can just reset your password if you did get hacked anyway.

"This may be true, but what's the problem?" In computer security, if you have to ask, there is a problem.

"It's a small site and everyone here seems friendly." - a stranger and white van seems friendly when he tells a kid he lost his puppy and asks for help to find him. This is the internet, in addition it is all the robots surfing the web that is what would be concerned.

"no one knows who you are so if you used the same passwords on other sites nobody can hack those." - You mean my email address does not show who I am visible to me on my profile page?

The point of computer security is not to ask "what is the problem?" because someone out there knows what the problem is, and means to use it for illegitimate purposes.

Thank you trueb.

It's very concerning that most of the people here either don't care, or don't understand why this is a problem.

that is very true, many people have taken security to the level of ignorance.

If you're that worried about the security, why not change your email to some dummy email you'll never check? Just make a gmail account, set it and forget it. Or hell, authenticate with Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
