Windows 8 is confusing. So, I'm gonna ask it here. Will Steam work on Windows 8? If so, on which version will it run?

Furthermore, if Steam will run on Win 8, will the games you install run?

According to Renée J. James, Senior Vice President, General Manager, Software and Services Group Windows 8 traditional will also feature a Windows 7 Mode.

“Windows 8 traditional means that our customers, or anyone who has an Intel-based or an x86-based product, will be able to run either Windows 7 mode or Windows 8 mode," James revealed. "They'll run all of their old applications, all of their old files – there'll be no issue."

So yes steam will run as well as all your games.

Yes, I got a MacBook Pro this summer and installed Windows 8 RC until Windows 8 comes out (or I get a good deal on Windows 7) just to play my games that didn't have a Mac version. Steam and all of my games play perfectly fine on Windows 8.

Windows 8 is windows 7 with a "pretty" interface.

Windows RT is a totally different matter. It only runs so called metro apps (whereas windows 8 runs "metro apps" and standard windows apps) and it runs on ARM not standard x86/64 processors.

Short answer: It will work on the version of windows 8 that runs on any pc that ran windows 7.
