I just bought an iPhone 3GS from a friend this morning and it was in perfect, pristine condition. It had iOS 5.1.1 on it, and today i upgraded to iOS 6. At first it was great, but now I am experiencing Wi-fi connection drops randomly (an issue that is common with ios6 on all devices as of now), but I now am experiencing random shut offs, and then this screen if I try to turn it on.

Can anyone help me with this? Should I revert to 5.1.1 until ios6.0.1 comes out since I have to jailbreak to unlock it anyway, or just wait it out? Or is there a simpler solution? Thanks in advance!

PS I forgot to mention, after about 5 minutes I can turn the phone back on and it work normally for however long until it happens again. This also happens while I still have adequate charge left in the phone. None of this was happening before i upgraded to iOS6.

EDIT: After living a day with these problems, I have noticed the random shutoffs only happen when the battery gets to around 45%. After that, its fine. It has happened more than once around there, so I suspect its a software issue, not hardware. I can't downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 Like I want to because I never had any SHSH blobs. News is saying that iOS 6.0.1 is coming within the next month. It will indeed be a long, long month.

Also, I tried jailbreaking last night with redsn0w, but It would not recognize my device in DFU mode for some reason, even though it is.

This was resolved by a battery replacement which I did myself for $5. Fixed all my issues.

Are you sure that you didn't jailbreak it with the tethered method? Doing that messes up your phone. If you did, I'd revert back to iOS 5 until there's a steady jailbreak for iOS 6.

I havent jailbroken yet. I plan on it, because I have to unlock it to use my service provider, Tmobile.

So you updated, yet you couldn't unlock. Makes no sense bro, why'd you update then?

No, I updated, and I haven't done anything to it yet. Its still stock iOS6.0

No no, I'm asking why did you update?

(Oct 26 '12 at 22:56) DJ Scooby Doo DJ%20Scooby%20Doo's gravatar image

Because I was blissfully unaware of the issues that would arise. :) Generally its better and more secure to update but obviously not in this case.

Take it to the Apple Store and have them revert you back to iOS 5.1 is what I would do.

You acutally can no longer revert to any OSes because Apple is no longer signing the software.

Well unless you can get the SHSH blobs in time!

I'd restore it back to factory and take it to Apple.

In the meantime, EverythingApplePro shows you how to unlock that iPhone 3GS for $5, here's the video link. I'd do it if I were you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_905412&feature=iv&src_vid=goOAkQGKVII&v=uu2u6DTCfKU
