Best Tablet or Convertable Laptop with MS Office

I need a new laptop. But i'm thinking I want a tablet but it must run MS. Office(must have for school). I've seen your the review for the Windows Surface tablet and it seemed like it sucked when it came to running video and was not the most responsive in Word. I've thought about getting a convertable laptop but many seem a bit clucky.

Your suggestions? Must have:

Must be able to connect to a keyboard. Has MS Office. Would like to be able to take handwritten notes.
