I was searching through previous posts and found https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Antivirus

Some of the options listed I've heard of but aren't maintained it seems. Some I've just never heard of before. Some I've heard of but don't seem to install properly. Some I've heard of but don't actually remove the infection.

What seems to be the best Anti virus option for Ubuntu?

I haven't ever heard of Avira Antivirus. Opinions?

I did select Firestarter as a firewall. Decent?

The best option when it comes to protecting your Linux based computer from viruses is to simply: run Linux. The only viruses that currently exist for Linux are proof of concept. In order for a virus to infect Linux, you would have to deliberately install it. Something that you just wouldn't do. Don't worry about viruses when you run Linux. They do not apply.

While I agree that running an AV with linux is generally unnecessary, to say that viruses for linux do not apply is a complete misconception. While most are indeed proof-of-concept, Linux isn't foolproof, no OS is. Especially with an extremely popular distro like ubuntu, viruses may target software that is included with it that isn't directly related to the linux kernel. No OS is virus proof, period.

Ok, no OS is foolproof, however Linux is 99% foolproof. Anything that would attack the system would need to be deliberately installed. Anything else, you just need to restart the computer and the virus wouldn't be able to do a thing.

Most Viruses on any OS are installed.

besides that, ask me how often I restart my computer. :)
