How does the backside of your ipad 4 stand up to scratches?

Im going to be getting the iPad 4 and want to get a smart cover to go with it but i dont knowhow easily the back scratches. How easily does yours get scratches and how do you treat it? By treat it I mean do you use it gently or do you "toss" it around a little more?

I have the Smart Cover from Apple and I just make sure never to put my iPad on a surface without the smart cover underneath it. I'd only toss it on my blankets in my room but that's because that has 0 possible harm to it, else I just put it down normally.
