unless you are in a special clean room, you will never get the screen protector applied in a way where you will not get a single spec of dust or air bubble anywhere between the screen protector and the screen. I personally don't like them since they reduce the visual quality, especially on the ipad 3 where at such a high resolution, the texture of the screen protector is now larger than the pixel size which causes reduced detail.

overall, you really don't need one if you have a good case that covers the screen when you are not actively using the device.
