I created an ftp server for my clients to download photos. Here are my questions:
1) What security risks are there by opening up a port?
2) Is every computer on my network at risk or just the server?
3) How would someone find my server and what info would someone need to attack me? How vulnerable am I?
4) What can I do to improve the security of my network and server?

The only risk is that they can make connection to servers running on that port.
Nope just the server.
If the IP or domain name is know they can try but they'd have to have a good reason for it to start attacking you.
Setup a password and make sure your firewall is up to date, also if the server is a Windows server make sure to also run a virus scanner regularly.
You are only really at risk if someone is after the data on your server. The changes of someone just randomly targeting your server is kinda low. It's a bit paranoia to think that people will start attacking you just because you've got a server running.
