I made a similar post during the past two years if anyone is interested. 2010, 2011

  • Phone: I have to go with the Galaxy S III. There are other phones like the iPhone, Nexus 4, and Lumia 920. Each one of those phones in my opinion just isn't quite as well rounded as the Galaxy S III. The iPhone seems too simple, the Nexus 4 doesn't have LTE, and the 920 still doesn't have some of the apps I rely on.
  • Tablet: I am going to split this into two categories since I really think that makes the most sense here. 10-inch tablets, and 7-inch tablets. My favorite 10-inch tablet would have to be the Microsoft Surface. It wasn't the best tablet but it certainly was something new. A step towards a tablet that you could bring to work with you and type up documents with a more full sized keyboard. When it comes to the 7-inch tablets I would say the Nexus 7. It's fast, cheap, and it has a ton of new software features.
  • Computer: This is another kind of tough category. I really liked what Apple did with slimming down their entire product lineup adding SSDs, and Retina Displays to some in the process. There were also a ton of new tablet notebook hybrids that Microsoft partners released. But I honestly really like the new ARM Samsung Chromebook. It just shows that you can get a decent notebook for $250 that can browse the web for 9+ hours. For 90% of people that's perfect.

Do you mean of products that have been released in 2012? Or of what we have used?

My favorite product released in 2012: iPad Retina Display (Late 2012)

My favorite software of 2012: Adobe Creative Cloud - I purchased this back in June, and since then I have used it nearly everyday. I may be a hobby user, but I am learning fast, and always have the latest versions of Adobes programs :o)

Mine happens to be learning a lot on some old servers that I have picked up within the last year or so and just being able to work and learn off of them. I have a netserver LPR from HP that I have been using with windows 2003. And three mendax short server which were missing memory and hard drives on them. Got those working without any problems. And just setting them up as web servers to learn on them or trying to set up a small beowolf et up on them for pure learning experience on them. Sometimes you don't really need super fast things to work with but just equipment to do what you want to learn off of nicely.

In 2012 I replaced my Computer and built and configured a homeserver. Also upgraded my Audio quite a bit. Apart from that I have bought no gadgets in 2012 so they have to win.

Mine is my Windows Phone 8X which I purchased to replace my HTC HD7. Great and reliable phone, hasn't let me down so far.

Would you recomend it over the lumia 810? My brother is deciding between those two.

The Lumia 810 isn't a bad phone, one of the best features is the SD Card Slot for up to 64gb. If your brother intends on installing a lot of apps and music etc, then the 810 might be best, if not then go for the 8X as there is no upgradable SD Memory. One other thing about the 810 is the exclusive Nokia apps.

I would recommend you wait and try the surface pro because the RT was a disappointment to most.
