With the massive expansion of online content providers such as Hulu, Netflix, etc...."cord cutters" are becoming more vocal. Roku, PlayOn and other services allow for you to get your entertainment in a fairly easy fashion, but is it practical for most to get rid of cable/satellite and go completely with an online solution?

What is your opinion?

I have concerns when it comes to live sports primarily, as the rest of the stuff I'd watch delayed anyway.

I've been a cord cutter for the last 6 years, and have never looked back. However, you can't get live broadcasts in almost all cases. And my experiences with live video via streaming have been poor at best.

If live sports is critical for you, then you are just not going to get that without the cable. But it depends on how much value that really has for you. TV shows you can get without the cable and much lower cost, same goes for movies, youtube and other online entertainment. So if its really just sports, than the question is, is live sports alone worth the cable bill? Of course thats upto you.

Most tv programming is junk. My parents watch some tv, but for me the best solution if you have a mac would be to buy an apple tv, and just Airplay free tv sites to your tv. Netflix is optional.

Regarding sports: I don't know what sports you what, but it is all available online, but sometimes there are ads and lower quality. Again, can't fully answer because I don't know what sports you watch.

Seems like the answer is sports are an issue...I like football....college and pro.... I expected this would be the case, but I find myself doing so much online already and so little with live/dvr'd content. Thanks for responses/opinions/input.

I like the idea of cord cutting; however, I have run into some problems. My parents and anyone that comes over like the idea of just turning on the tv and cable box and there being tv on. Not having to find the right remote for the AppleTV or Roku and then having to find the right app that will let them watch whatever show they want. So for my setup having DirecTV is simple and that wins every time for my parents even with a almost $200 cable bill, for just TV. That bill could be cut so much but my parents like the ease of use. Also, my dad would be upset if we could not get live sports/other tv without using an antenna, and he think we should never use an antenna.
