Now I mean not to offend here, but the amount of things that don't need to be edited, being edited, are a little annoying. I notice that rather than answers or comments on questions, all I see is "Insert person who edited here." It seems a little strange that questions that are perfectly understandable are modified from their original content. Again , I mean no offense, but I'd rather see answers and comments, not the dreaded "edited by" signature on every question I look at.

Quote from the FAQ:

Questions and answers can be edited like wiki pages by experienced users of this site; this improves the overall quality of the knowledge base. If this approach is not for you, we respect your choice.

The people on this site do not change the meaning of the question or answer when editing they only change spelling and other errors, or to remove spam. This is how the site works.

In my defense it has happened a lot making it look, well, odd. I saw a list of at least 5-7 questions in a row which made me wonder. But maybe it's one of those days where someone brewed my coffee wrong...

I'm probably responsible for a lot of these "annoyances," but it's all part of trying to get the questions answered. If I take a lot of these questions in their original format over to Chris and the LockerGnome crew for official answers, they must fit our content guidelines before publishing. In short: My efforts are only extended as a way to help, not harm anyone. Cheers!

It's more clear now... Thanks.

A large number of the edits are made by admins in order to make the site look neater. It makes it easier to browse questions and find relevant information if tags are edited to so as to be more related, if the grammar and language is correct then it also makes it more easily understood by those who are to answer it.

This site is supposed to be a knowledge hub. If a question is badly formated or misspelled then some people can't find the question they're looking for and others simply can't understand them. Experienced site users can edit questions to make them cleaner, more legible and easier to search for. The meaning of questions are never edited, only the way they are presented.

That is how this site works. If you don't like it I'd suggest you go elsewhere.

I'd suggest you don't click answers for me... I should have the final say as to who's answer was best.

Excuse me? I'm an admin and this question is regarding the site. Therefor I select my response as the top answer since it is an official response from site staff. I can refer to the site rules here:

"Last Word - A site admin or moderator ALWAYS has the last word. If they ask you to stop discussing something, please do so."

Ah but thetechdude answered my question more kindly. And he didn't say his answer was best, I did.

I honestly don't know why people get irritated by this. If someone wants to add a footnote to what they wanted to ask or modify it because they found a better way to word their question, I can't really see any harm.

How is this irritating? If someone doesn't take the time to grammatically proof their question, than us higher powers (anyone over 2,000 karma last time I checked) have a right to make it clear and understandable to everyone.
