Well finding the 'best' one for you will take some experimentation on your part. If you need a nice general client, FileZilla is a popular (and good) one.

I would agree Filezilla is a good ftp application for transferring files from a computer to a server I have done it through the internet as well through my home network. Never had a problem with it when transferring.

Which FTP functions do you need, if you only need basic FTP functions (saving and accessing files) you can use the FTP client that comes with windows.

It is part of windows explorer and thus functions mostly like a normal windows folder. (you can even place the folders on your desktop and access them like any other folder (only limitation is that you can't open files directly from it, if you double click on a file, it will be copied to a temp location before running).

try it,

in windows explorer enter in ftp://servers-address

Before I was using CoreFTP, But that was in Windows 7 and now using Windows 8. I find that the program was not working well with win8.
