I want to create a FTP server so I can access my my files at school and at friends houses.
I have installed 'FileZilla server client' I have made a drive partition I want to be served. I can access my server over the local network (IP: 192.168...) but not though my public ip.
Any ideas? Thanks for the tips in advance :)

If you are trying to set this up from home desk top 2 things come first 1 is to check and make sure your ISP allows port 21 to be open that is the #1 thing if this is a no FTP may not be possible #2 make sure there is not a fire wall on the desktop or router or both blocking port 21 ..
3 since IP addresses are not fixed make sure you know that you know the Ip addRess the file server is using at the time you want it ..
a few other things know this if any one at is at home using internet access or everyone but you at the same time you try to up load or donw load through that server everything can become double throttled once by the server and once by the ISP as they have an order of priority set up on there system and you can be sure an open server on home service is very low on thatr priority list ..
if you want to get very fancy with it and you have your Own domain you can go make a Cname for IP address you still need to know what it is at all times ....
