I have an internet router from Verizon that funnels the connection to the internet (via ethernet cables) . Even when the computers that the ethernet connections go to are off, the ethernet lights still come on, on the router. Whey is this?

Because power is still being supplied to the computer, and something called a magic packet can be sent to turn on the computer, not like its causing a problem, unless it is, which in that case I have no clue what that problem could be.

It is checking to see if there is any activity on the computer side. I know when my computer goes to in-active for a certain ti,e the router still checks it every so often. until I wake it up then it becomes a steady light showing that it is connected to it and it is working properly. Take a look in the router/modem if there is one that came with it. They will usually describe it in more detail than here. Or if you can see the model on the modem router. you can check the manufacturer website what it means even when the computer is turned off and it is showing that it is still connected to it.
