I was looking to buy a new hard drive and I saw the Western Digital Green Drives are classified as being for "Low Power Storage?" What is "Low Power Storage" and what could I use this drive for if I purchased it? What should I NOT use a "Low Power Storage" drive for?

This means the drive is more oriented toward energy efficiency. Uses less power while being accessed and also less power while idle. You can use it just like any other drive for normal day to day use.

The lower power is achieved in the hardware and probably at the cost of some performance so for normal use it's fine, but if you're looking for high performance and speed then you probably wouldn't want to go with a green drive.

Would a low power storage drive be good for constant recording to the drive with something like Fraps?

Yea, I would say so.

This is correct, But i would like to state that if your goal is to save power by throwing one of these in your desktop/laptop in hopes to save money on your monthly bill... then you are better off replacing all the incandescent lights in your house first as you will probably never notice the savings in your power bill...

On the other hand if it is to prolong battery life in a laptop, then you might get a little extra time off this...

No I need another drive to install in my desktop because I need more space. I can fill up a TB pretty fast. But I just wanted to know if there was any downside to these drives. I know Fraps, and direct video recording requires fast hard drive speeds for high quality content.
