Well first I ask, what do you want to do with the laptop? And second, I'd advise you get the Air as the Retina technology in the MacBook Pro with Retina Display in my opinion isn't fully "there yet" not to say the MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a bad laptop, because its not, but I'd defiantly advise to wait at least two generations for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display to be more developed before getting it. The price will be significantly lowered then.

Though it is not one of your options, I would recommend the Regular Macbook. It comes with more features and it has much better battery performance. You can buy yourself an SSD and 8gb ram and get the same performance as the retina. Retina is great but not many things utilize its high resolution.

Out of your choices though I would say the Macbook Air. I assume this is for regular computing, in which it will be great enough for your needs. If you need to do any rendering or designs or whatnot definitely get the macbook pro.

I do think the Retina MacBook Pro is overkill for most people. Honestly, If I were a pro and needed a very powerful computer, I'd probably save myself some money and just buy the standard MacBook Pro with a SSD. I currently have the Air and I absolutely love it. In my opinion though, a MacBook Air with a Retina Display would be completely overkill and a lot more expensive. Cost is probably the very reason the iMac doesn't have the Retina display.

Retina. imho, shouldn't be a selling point. Retina may be nice for certain things but on a laptop that resolution is a bit... much. The 1440x900 more than suffices for a 13" screen. The air is great, with tablets and laptops becoming near the same price as the air, Macs are becoming much more viable it seems like

I agree. Not that its a bad thing, its just overkill in my opinion.
