iPad vs. MacBook Air

Right now I'm saving up for a MacBook Air, but now I'm not sure if I should get that, or an iPad. I have about $440 saved up. I don't really do that much intense stuff (but maybe every now and again).

Mostly I would use it for games and YouTube videos; what should I do? I want the iPad because it's cheaper and yet still cool, but I really need my own computer plus there are a lot of things online that a computer can do that an iPad can't. And if an iPad, which gen?

P.S. Right now I only have an iPhone 4S but I previously had an iPod 4 and never had an iPad or Mac of any kind.

If you "really need" your own computer then save up for a mac if you want a mac. iPads are nice but as a student they are not handy. At least for me they are not. If you really want an iPad wait for the next-gen to come out, rumoured in summer to come out.

Overall though, get the mac. You are better off, especially if you need a computer

It really depends on what docs and apps you use, in my college there's few people that have a Tablet different to an iPad, it really helps me out when textbooks are left and writing docs down

Yes it does depend, I'm more biased towards pen(cil) and paper. I find it less distracting. Most people I see with tablets often get distracted from it. I'm not saying everyone does but a lot of people that I have observed do. Often I get asked to see notes and what not

That's note taking, but gaming and all of that stuff iPad is better

Yes, but games work well on the Air as well. ( depending on the games obviously). As far as better? That's subjective. I personally am not a fan of mobile games. At first I was but as time went on I could really care less about mobile games. Sure a few here and there is nice but I can live without it

Mobile gaming is taking market share from console gaming, of 10 gamers, 6-7 are playing mobile games, that really depends on which Games you're used to play, iOS and android have some great games
