What is a good wi-fi system? I am looking for a good wi-fi system for my house. I am looking for a new one because as of right now I have a pretty good wi-fi system but it can't handle all of the devices that I have. so I need one that is fast and can handle a lot of devices |

Get yourself an Apple Airport Extreme. You can use it as a wireless storage system, transmit 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies AND guest network at the same time. Plus, you can control it using your iPhone, Mac and Windows PC through a native software. Lastly, use Airport Express to extend the network. |

I am using the Apple Airport Extreme and I love it! It's a great wireless router! It can handle a lot of devices, and its dual band, so it won't interfere with your cordless phones or Bluetooth devices. Although it is pricey, its the best wireless router I can recommend. |

before buying any router, you should always look at benchmarks, and small net builder is a good place to start http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-charts/bar/62-2_4-ghz-dn-40 If you want the fastest available wifi speeds, then the netgear R6300 is really good. If you need a ton of features from a router then the Netgear wndr4700 is really good (currently using one and the performance is pretty good, currently the fastest NAS performance of any other storage router on the market. though there is one thing to keep in mind with some of the newer routers,to improve the range, many new routers now are using transmit powers in excess of 700mw, meaning your signal quality will actually drop if you are within 1 foot of the router due to receiver overload Keep in mind that even with a high end router, if you have a very large home or have many walls or walls with rebar and other dense materials, then you will get better performance by going with 2 lower cost routers and having one router act as an access point. (if you would like to go with a 2 router setup, I recommend a router that supports 3rd party firmware that way you can set up a mesh like network and still maintain your wifi security. (great for if you do not want to use an ethernet cable to connect the second router. Keep in mind that when it comes to 1 or 2 1080p streams, or even standard SMB file transfers between network drives, there is no real difference between a good N300 and a N450 router since N450 and N300 use 150Mbit per connection and standard 1080p streams using things like DLNA will only make 1 connections (same with SMB transfers) Also hen a router is labeled N900, it will never give 900mbit since it is really just a on paper max speed of 450mbit on the 2.4 GHz band, and 450Mbit on the 5GHz band, and 300mbit needs at least 2 connections to meet it's full speed, and 450mbit needs at least 3 connections to meet it's max speed You only begin to get significantly faster single connection performance when you move to 802.11ac |
